Mission

The East Texas STEM Center (ETXSC) at the University of Texas at Tyler is a component of the Texas Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (TSTEM) Initiative designed to build on national, state and local efforts to improve math and science achievement among Texas students. The Texas Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Initiative is piloting innovative ways of delivering science, engineering, and math education and focus on increasing the number of students who study and enter science, technology, engineering, and math careers.

The ETXSC provides technical assistance to rural East Texas school districts, particularly those with high need schools, to improve student performance in the areas of math and science and to prepare students for college and entry into STEM professions in the areas of Engineering and Earth Systems Science.

The Texas Regional Collaborative for Science at UT-Tyler is housed in the ETXSC. For the Academic Year 2007-2008 the TRC will focus on K-8 Geosciences and primarily serve teachers in the Tyler ISD and Palestine ISD. The TRC also can provide technical assistance to districts in the area of Physics.
