Digging Deeper into the Mole Concept

Many chemistry students have difficulty with the mole concept. Via power point presentation and student activity sheets, Dr. Tom Hsu and Dr. Manos Chaniotakis address effective, technology-based techniques for learning while focusing on the following six topics:

  • The Chemical Formula and Moles
  • The Diversity of Matter
  • The Molar Mass and Chemical Reaction
  • A Paradoxical Approach to Stoichiometry
  • Quantitative Modeling of Chemical Reactions
  • A Modeling Approach to Understanding Biochemistry

Each module above translates roughly to a 2-3 hour workshop covering TEKS and STARR content appropriate for delivery to high school teachers.

The materials also include engineering, technology, and math teaching tools (STEM) that are specifically designed to allow the chemistry teacher to meet the TEKS and prepare students for the STARR assessments on these areas.
