Twenty teams of Texas teachers from high schools who are interested in learning how to blend CTE and math courses to attain higher student success. Teacher teams must consist of a high school math teacher and a CTE teacher prepared to teach in the business and/or health clusters.
Each team of teachers will develop lessons from the CTE Business Management and Administration Cluster, Finance Cluster, or the Health Science Cluster. The lessons will be at the Algebra I level and above. The workshop goals are to:
- Model exemplary contextual lessons from Construction, Business, and Health Sciences.
- Develop contextual lessons in respective clusters: Math teachers learn CTE applications for their classrooms & CTE teachers learn the Math in their existing curriculum.
- Review current research related to contextualized learning in Math & CTE.
- Promote respect and understanding of each other’s curriculum.
- Develop activities that demonstrate the need for mathematics in the career paths of business management, finance, and health sciences.
