
The Capital City Collaborative builds a community of learners and science teacher leaders equipped with concept knowledge and scientific inquiry skills to impart to their students science concepts through inquiry necessary for the rigor and relevance required th by the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills.
C3 delivers science concepts to 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade teachers in Austin ISD, Manor ISD, and Del Valle ISD to develop the teachers' understanding of science principles. This year's grant added field experiences for the teachers.
Trainers demonstrate the pedagogy of inquiry teaching. Trainers create a schema on which teachers create an environment that encourages divergent thinking, emphasises hands-on/ minds-on experiences, and applies ever-changing technologies. Teachers gain strategies to foster cooperative learning, independent problem-solving using science inquiry, embed critical thinking skills, and encourage effective communication.
Trainers assist teachers in building their skills for differentiating their instruction and delivery for special populations.
Austin ISD staff assist teachers in planning their nine weeks insturction around the Instructional Planning Guides. First we map the TEKS and SE, second we find the TEKS and the SE in the curriculum, third, we highlight the 5E to target the richness of the concepts and activities for each concept taught.
