Mission

To organize and support a network of Region 12 science teachers, higher education instructors, and community stakeholders in order to promote excellence in science teaching.

Accomplishments

Science Fair is Alive and Well in Region 12
Mexia Junior High Science had a delegation of 22 students qualify for the state science fair in San Antonio, which was held April 10th, 11th, and 12th.  Ashleigh Fleming received a special award from the U.S. Navy for her project that dealt with the effect of weathering on clover seed germination. Alana Holt received honorable mention for her project in Cellular Microbiology, which showed the effects of antioxidants on the plant cancer agrobacterium tumefacians. Taylor Armstrong placed 3rd in Behavioral and Social Science with her project which showed the effects of adding a student’s own name to a standardized test to see if there was a difference in scores. Mollie McCoslin placed 2nd in Animal Science with her project which showed the effects of the anabolic steroid Stanozolol on chickens. Ashton Kantor placed 3rd in Environmental Management with her project which dealt with the best organic control of mosquito larvae and turbidity of pond water.

May 6, 2008 Title: Elementary Science Series K-2, Day 2
Description: Tteachers will discover fun and easy ways for their students to learn the Physical Science TEKS. We will explore physics principles through hands-on investigations, literature and research-based strategies. You will learn how to guide and support inquiry in your classroom.
May 8, 2008 Title: Elementary Science Series 3-5, Day 2
Description:Teachers will discover fun and easy ways for their students to learn the Physical Science TEKS. We will explore physics principles through hands-on investigations, literature and research-based strategies. You will learn how to guide and support inquiry in your classroom.
May 8, 2008 Title:Secondary Geosciences
Description:Designed to introduce geoscience as a 4th year high school science course. It is a combination of earth and space science with many hands-on activities to help engage students.
June 5, 2008 Title: Junior Master Gardener
Description: The training is for 3rd - 5th grade Science teachers and focuses on teaching integrated hands-on activities, experiments, and projects aligned to Elementary TEKS and TAKS. The workshop will focus on the integration of language arts and science through the JMG program and curriculum and will also include activities from Wildlife Gardener and Literature in the Garden curriculum guides. A $40.00 material fee has been added to the workshop fee to cover the cost of the book that each participant will receive.
