Region 18 ESC Math Collaborative serves as a first-choice partner in meeting the educational needs of all students in mathematics, through high-quality sustained professional development and support of mathematics teachers throughout the region.
In its first year (2006-2007) the Region 18 ESC Collaborative for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching delivered approximately 6500 contact-hours of professional development training from the Texas Mathematics Initiative. This involved some 395 teachers from 31 different school districts, spread across a geographic area the size of Indiana.
As of April 2008 our 2007-2008 Math Collaborative has served 199 teachers, accounting for over 3200 contact hours of high-quality professional development training. This has set the stage for our extensive summer professional development offerings, which will include at least one graduate-level mathematics education course through our higher education partner, Sul Ross State University, as well as a 2-day "Part II" of Math TEKS Connections in both of the K-2 and 3-5 grade bands.
