Description

NEED logoThe Shell-TRC Partnership and the National Energy Education Development Project (NEED) are joining forces to bring you a very exciting and unique learning opportunity in conjunction with the Shell Pennzoil Grand Prix.

Participants will conduct hands-on activities that pertain to the science of racing. These include examining polymers, distinguishing the difference between engines, motors and generators and how they work, and comparing fuels (gas vs. ethanol) with molecular models. Mathematics teachers will have the opportunity to discuss how they can use these activities and support the science.

The training will be provided by NEED experts, and will include handouts and access to NEED’s electronic materials.

The morning will begin with registration and a continental breakfast followed by remarks from a Shell leader. An overview of the training and safety will be discussed. We will then breakout into groups and complete three hands-on activities. Between noon and 12:45 p.m. Shell will transport us to Reliant Stadium and we will have box lunches there in the Shell suite. After lunch we will have activities building engines and visiting dozens of interactive and educational displays, including an experiential area presented by Shell. Lastly, we will attend the Grand Prix qualifying races. Shell will then transport us back to Two Shell Plaza.
