Description

This workshop will help you plan and run computing summer camps for elementary (rising 4th graders) to high school students. It will explain how to make the camps financially self-sustaining. It will also cover logistics, budget, timeline, how to advertise the camps, how to handle registration, items to use in the camps, and how to apply for the “seed” money for equipment.

Barbara Ericson from Georgia Tech will lead a webinar and two workshops this fall. She is the Director of Computing Outreach and has been running non-residential computing summer camps since 2004. These camps are financially self-sustaining and achieve statistically significant changes in students’ attitudes toward computing and their knowledge of computing concepts.

What will I learn?

  • What to consider when starting or expanding computing summer camps for 4th-12th graders
  • Equipment/tools that can be used in camps
  • Details on how to run, advertise, and evaluate the camps
  • How to apply for up to $4,999.99 in seed funds. We have a total of $45,000 in seed funds for equipment for the camps thanks to a generous gift from Oracle and funds from   Only those from ECEP partner and associate states (AL, CA, CT, GA, IN, MA, MD, NH, PR, SC, TX, and UT) can apply for the seed funds for equipment.
